Heather Goldminc is celebrating 20 years with Blue Sky Ceramics. After being “discovered” at a Van Dusen Garden Show in Vancouver, BC in June 1999 – her world with clay and art was on fire (a little ceramic humour). The company was captivated by her work and dedication to keeping its joyful spirit intact and released the first pieces in 2000. Blue Sky’s global online reach offered her a way to inspire collectors worldwide.

The Blue Sky discovery did happen two decades ago, but Heather’s love of art – and clay began over 45 years ago. When she was five, her mother brought home a bag of clay, which instantly captured her interest. As Heather recalls, the clay was cold, wet, gray and musty – but it was love at first wedge (more ceramic humour).
Clay reflects her soul, her creativity and joy.

Clay is such a big part of her day to day life – her inspirations come from many places – living on Vancouver Island, stepping out her door is inspiring… the leaves, the trees, the ocean -all the beauty that surrounds. She is also inspired by family – her husband, Will, sees the beauty in turning a piece of wood, her mother, Duff, and daughter, Rachel, create items on a sewing machine – all of them are creative and enjoy the process. In a way, you can experience them all in the special tea-light houses, the Cheeky Laundry Line, the fall items, the Christmas gems… and more.

Heather’s mind is quick, lively and always thinking of new designs for clay – it is a rare gift to come up with unique and whimsical that will melt the hearts of the collectors. For Heather, it is a tremendous privilege and dream come true for her to see her work in so many homes all over the world, touching the hearts of so many.

With the 20 years comes, change, growth, ups, downs and pure delight – the clay creation keep happening – and that is a beautiful thing!

Thank you to everyone – the stores, the buyers, the individuals – and of course, the hard-working people of Blue Sky Ceramics. They have all been part of the 20-year journey – and what a group to celebrate this momentous occasion with. Here’s to another magnificent 20 years!
